Emma Moriarty of Port Jefferson Station and Oswego State Volleyball Win Two on Saturday

Emma Moriarty of Port Jefferson Station and the Oswego State volleyball team hosted a six-team round of SUNYAC Pool Play and won two matches on Saturday to finish a perfect 3-0 on the weekend. Oswego is now 12-8 overall on the year and improve to 4-2 in the SUNYAC.

OSWEGO 3, BUFFALO STATE 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-19):

In a quick match for the Lakers - who never allowed the Bengals to reach the 20-point plateau in any game - Lauren Edwards led the team with 18 assists. That brought her career total to 2,210 assists, moving her into sole possession of second place all-time in program history. By the end of Saturday, Edwards' career mark accumulated to 2,233, just 559 back of Jenn Prievo's program-record 2,792, set from 2001-03.

Aiding in the setting duty against Buffalo State was senior Lindsey Champitto (15) and Jessica Long (1). The setters spread the ball pretty evenly amongst six Laker hitters, led by Megan Russell's nine kills. Emma Moriartyand Isabella Winklestine each finished with seven while Alison Sullivan chipped in six. Senior Meaghan Roefsand sophomore Ariel Murawski tied with four apiece to round out Oswego's 37 kills.

Passing was headed by Long's 17 while Champitto also had double-figures in the category (10).

On defense, three Lakers had multiple blocks: Murawski (1 solo, 3 assists), Russell (1 solo, 2 assists) and Sullivan (2 assists). Moriarty (solo) and Roefs (assist) both ended with one block.

At the service line, Rina Qelaj aced Buffalo State three times, Champitto (2) and Edwards (2) combined for four and Moriarty tossed in one.

OSWEGO 3, ONEONTA (25-16, 25-13, 25-19):

The day did not get any tougher for the Lakers in the afternoon, this time holding Oneonta to less than 20 points in each game of a clean sweep. Prior to the match, Oswego honored its five seniors who then did their lions share to beat the Red Dragons.

Russell paced the Laker attack with 12 kills while classmate Roefs turned in a season-high tying 11. Seniors tallied all but two of the team's 38 assists, starting with Edwards' match-high 23. Champitto had double-figures with 10, Moriarty finished with two and Russell collected one. The other two Laker assists came from Long.

Defensively, Sullivan haunted the Red Dragons at the net with six blocks on two solos and four assists. Murawski, Roefs and Moriarty each had two blocks and Russell was in on one assist.

Long again had the most Laker digs, this time with 10, while Moriartiy (7), Qelaj (6), Edwards (5), Murawski (4), Champitto (2) and Winklestine (2) each had multiple tallies.

Oswego now enters a four-match nonconference streak, starting with St. Lawrence University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the friendly confines of Max Ziel Gymnasium.
